H1: Counsel, Corporate Legal - Regulatory Enforcement H2: Providing Legal and Regulatory Advice for GEICO's Insurance Lines and Business Units
The Counsel role within the Corporate Legal – Regulatory Enforcement group at GEICO offers an exciting opportunity to provide legal and regulatory advice for GEICO's various insurance lines and business units. This role involves collaborating with internal clients and state insurance department regulators, researching and drafting legal memoranda, and identifying and assessing risk exposure for the company. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of experience in insurance regulatory legal matters and a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
Responsibilities:
- Lead GEICO's engagement with state insurance department regulators for examinations and other regulatory inquiries. - Collaborate with and support internal clients on insurance regulatory examinations and inquiries. - Represent the company's interests in securing favorable resolutions for regulatory matters. - Research and draft memoranda on relevant insurance legal and regulatory issues. - Identify and assess risk exposure for the company during regulatory exams and inquiries. - Provide strategic legal counsel and educate business leaders on insurance regulatory matters. - Collaborate with all disciplines within the legal organization and other departments to provide informed legal and regulatory advice. - Work closely with compliance to mitigate regulatory risk. - Limited domestic travel may be required to engage with regulators and build relationships. - Special projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4-6 years of legal experience with insurance regulatory legal matters. - Property/casualty experience, preferably in auto insurance. - Strong research skills and knowledge of state laws and regulations applicable to insurance. - Experience leading legal engagement with insurance department exams and inquiries. - Executive communication and presentation skills. - Analytical acumen for legal and regulatory risks. - Ability to counsel on complex issues to business professionals at all levels. - Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, dynamic environment. - Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state.
Location: This position is flexible and can be remote, but if located in the Washington, DC or New York City metro areas, it may be a hybrid role with 3 days/week in the Chevy Chase, MD or NYC office.
Salary: The annual salary range for this position is $148,000.00 - $230,000.00, and the final offer will be based on multiple factors including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience and education, and market and business considerations.
