Responsibilities:
- Analyzing conflict of interest reports for new firm representations and lateral attorney hires - Resolving conflict of interest issues related to new clients, matters, and lateral attorneys - Reviewing and editing draft engagement letters for compliance with firm policies and professional responsibility rules - Communicating with partners and management regarding complex conflicts issues - Conducting orientation for staff and attorneys on new matter approval process - Consulting with partners, professional responsibility committee, and information governance to create effective screening restrictions - Maintaining thorough and accurate records of conflicts resolutions and related communications - Developing expertise on conflicts rules in specific practice areas and creating templates for analysis - Performing corporate research as needed
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) required - Minimum of three years of experience as an attorney within a conflicts department - Strong knowledge of conflict-of-interest principles and laws governing them - Technological skills and familiarity with conflicts clearance and ethical screening software - Familiarity with legal software such as Intapp, D&B/Hoovers, CapIQ, and BvD
The Conflicts Attorney will join the Office of General Counsel at Gibson Dunn, a leading global law firm known for its exceptional legal strategies and precision in high-stakes matters. Based in London, the Conflicts Attorney will report directly to the Director of Conflicts Attorney and work closely with the Chief Legal Operations Officer and Director of Conflicts & Information Governance.
As a Conflicts Attorney, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the firm's conflict and risk management policies and procedures. This includes analyzing conflict of interest reports for new firm representations and lateral attorney hires, resolving conflict of interest issues, and reviewing and editing engagement letters. You will also play a crucial role in communicating with partners and management on complex conflicts issues, conducting orientation for staff and attorneys, and consulting on effective screening restrictions.
To succeed in this role, you must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a minimum of three years of experience as an attorney within a conflicts department. You should also have a strong understanding of conflict-of-interest principles and laws governing them, as well as technological skills and familiarity with conflicts clearance and ethical screening software. Familiarity with legal software such as Intapp, D&B/Hoovers, CapIQ, and BvD is also preferred.
