The Outpatient Coder is responsible for coding diagnoses and procedures of Outpatient Diagnostic and Hospital-based Clinic records using ICD-10-CM coding system. Identifies cases which do not meet medical necessity and consults with ordering physicians for additional information to appropriately code the account for compliance and reimbursement. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of CMS and other payer guidelines. OP Organization-wide volume totals approximately 290,000 - 300,000 accounts per year.
CPC OR CPC-A REQUIRED. CODING FOR A LARGE RADIOLOGY PRACTICE, INCLUDING DX AND CPT CODING. DETAIL ORIENTED, ABILITY TO WORK ON YOUR OWN A MUST. RADIOLOGY EXPERIENCE A PLUS. REMOTE AVAILABLE AFTER 3-6 MONTHS OF ON SITE TRAINING.
The primary job duties of the Coder-Outpatient includes, but is not limited to, the following:
*Performs ICD-10-CM coding of Outpatient and Hospital-based clinic records, assigning and sequencing codes according to offical coding guidelines. *Identifies accounts in which the diagnosis provided does not support medical necessity for the diagnostic procedure performed and acts as the first line of consultation to the physician to clarify and obtain necessary documentation, using CMS and other payer guidelines. *Provides guidance to the physician to ensure appropriate procedure is followed in the revision of the medical record when necessary. *Ensures that the coded accounts are compliant with established coding guidelines and that all code assignments are based on physician documentation. *Maintains working knowledge of Sovera, SMS, 3M Encoder, SoftMed and Educode software. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High School education required: college degree preferred. Medical Terminology and Physiology & Anatomy required.
EXPERIENCE: Entry level position. New coding program graduates considered. Previous coding or health information management experience preferred. Must have a basic understanding of body systems and disease process. Basic computer skills required.
