JOB OVERVIEW The College of Medicine, Hoxworth Blood Center is recruiting a Clinical Lab Scientist 1 in the Transplantation Immunology laboratory. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.
The Transplantation Immunology laboratory at Hoxworth Blood Center provides histocompatibility (HLA) testing for the Tri-State area's growing solid organ and stem cell transplant programs. The desired candidate for the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I position will have experience in serology, flow cytometry, and molecular techniques, though on the job training is available for the right candidate. Computer skills, good communication, and the ability to work independently are required. Position requires participation in all aspects of TID laboratory operations. This position will be assigned to work on the second shift.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS *Perform testing, interpret and record results. *Perform quality control and proficiency testing. *Comply with cGMP requirements (in appropriate areas) regarding test interpretation and validity of results. *Communicate and report test results to external customers, as well as internal. *Respond to other healthcare professionals' questions regarding results. *Clerically process incoming patient blood samples. Compose written case reports for hospital patient referrals, when appropriate. *Prepare laboratory reagents. Develop and perform reagent evaluation studies and other special projects with supervisory review. *Quarantine and discard blood products with positive test results, when appropriate. *Maintain equipment and clean, safe work area. *Assume on-call responsibilities, as required. *Perform related duties based on departmental need. REQUIRED EDUCATION *Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related biological science. *Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. REQUIRED TRAININGS/CERTIFICATIONS Some labs require MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), BB(ASCP), or SBB(ASCP).
