JOB SUMMARY PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE DRIVING FOR THE MOBILE IMAGING DEPARTMENT. DRIVER MAY BE EXPECTED TO DRIVE OTHER **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** TRACTOR TRAILERS AS NEEDED.
The Class A CDL Tractor Trailer Driver performs professional duties involved in the safe transportation of high value medical equipment to and from contract hospitals. Properly prepares and checks units for serving contract hospitals. Maintains units by performing maintenance or having service performed as required. Assists in the transportation and care of patients as required. Duties include, but are not limited to the following"
*Operates tractors and trailers carrying highly specialized and technical equipment. The trailers are overweight and therefore are more challenging to operate than normal. Spotting units involve expert ability in maneuvering and backing up. *Duties are performed primarily during 2nd & 3rd shift with occasional overnight stays required. *Prepares units for use. This includes set up and leveling, connecting and testing power, connecting and testing phones, and connecting and testing network cables. *Powers up computer system and checks operation to reduce downtime and early morning start up time. *Performs all duties associated with maintenance of equipment including troubleshooting electrical and mechanical failures, repairing any within their capabilities, contacting vendors, making service calls, and following through on repairs. *Assists with transportation and care of patients as required by staff technologists. *Maintains a high degree of professional ethics, care, courtesy, patience and safety. *Complies with all **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** and department policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines. *Participates in the training of staff as assigned. *Maintains CDL and positive driving points. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST PASS A DOT DRUG TEST. ADDITIONALLY, CANDIDATE MUST PROVIDE A COPY OF HIS/HER CURRENT MOTOR VEHICLE RECORD AT TIME OF INTERVIEW TO HAVE IT ASSESSED BY CARILION RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT.
EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED certificate required.
EXPERIENCE: 3 years of over-the-road experience with tractor-trailer combinations required. 5 years or more experience preferred
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and long form physical certificate required.
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Positive driving record, good interpersonal skills, technical skills, overnight stays and flexibility in assignments. Skilled driver able to maneuver large and expensive equipment in tight and difficult areas. Good motor skills including manual dexterity of eye, hand/foot, and depth perception necessary when driving. Interpersonal and communication skills necessary for interacting with customers and staff. Must be able to communicate effectively and read and comprehend written materials. Must successfully complete a driving test conducted by Carilion management.
