Job Description:
- The ideal claims team member will be an analytical and creative problem solver with the ability to hone in on key issues for coverage, liability and damage evaluation. - Our claim examiners are assertive decision makers with a strong desire to persuade through negotiation and conflict management. - The claims team offers ongoing challenges, providing new opportunities to learn and grow. - The position involves interacting with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to keep products healthy. - The role includes confirming coverage, conducting thorough investigations, setting reserves, and managing files towards final disposition. - Communication with policyholders, defense counsel, and underwriting is a key aspect of the job. - Other duties may include special projects, continuing education, and travel for mediations and court hearings.
Essential Functions:
- Confirm coverage by reviewing first notice of loss and interpreting policy language. - Conduct thorough investigations, secure relevant facts, and identify joint tortfeasors and witnesses. - Set initial reserves and maintain them as the file develops. - Manage files towards final disposition through effective diary, direction to defense counsel, and analysis and strategy for settlement or trial. - Communicate effectively with policyholders, defense counsel, and underwriting.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to phone and email inquiries from both internal and external parties. - Adhere to established claim service promises. - Complete special projects as needed. - Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional and personal development. - Some travel required for mediations and court hearings.

Minimum Job Requirements:
- 2 years (Associate Claim Examiner) or 7 years (Claim Examiner) of relevant experience handling general liability/casualty/excess matters. - Personal lines experience, multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degrees and/or JD are a plus.
