- Confirm coverage by reviewing first notice of loss and policy information - Prepare coverage position letters such as disclaimers and reservation of rights - Conduct thorough investigation of the claim to assess liability and damages - Retain independent adjusters and provide direction as needed - Understand and apply statutory and case law in assessing liability exposure - Identify joint tortfeasors and ensure fair payment from all parties - Maintain adequate reserves throughout the claim process - Proactively manage files and work towards final disposition - Communicate effectively with claimants and claimant attorneys - Oversee defense counsel and review settlement agreements - Keep detailed file notes documenting all relevant claim activity - Prepare various reports for underwriting and other departments - Support customer service by responding promptly to phone and email inquiries - Complete special projects as assigned - Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support personal development - Occasional travel may be required for mediation
