The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking a Child Support Officer III-IV for their Child Support Division. The position is full-time with a standard work week of 40 hours. The salary range for this position is $4,128.08 - $4,700.00 per month. This job is open to current employees of the OAG only. The primary location for this position is in Temple, Texas.

Responsibilities: • Conduct detailed investigations to locate absent parents • Assist in establishing paternity • Obtain court orders for financial support and health care coverage for children • Enforce child support orders • Respond to customer inquiries • Promote the emotional involvement of both parents in their children’s lives • Collaborate with state agencies and community organizations to serve Texas families • Monitor child support cases and refer delinquent cases for enforcement action • Document all case actions using appropriate agency tools • Review and maintain child support virtual files for accuracy • Review cases for eligibility for closure • Attend court to assist legal staff • Research case information on computer systems • Maintain knowledge of child support policies and procedures, Texas Family Law, federal regulations, and other states’ IV-D regulations • Assess child support cases and determine appropriate action • Explain Child Support Program policies, procedures, and regulations to customers • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints • Assess validity of complaints against the IV-D program • Serve as Notary Public • Perform related work as assigned • Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions • Attend work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon schedule • Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information • Comply with all agency policies and procedures
Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred • 1 years of experience in Child Support Program, credit collections, investigations, legal assistant, legal secretary, customer service, or IV-A eligibility specialist • Knowledge of investigative practices and techniques • Skill in interviewing and negotiating • Proficiency with personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval • Basic mathematical skills • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines • Effective oral and written communication skills • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities • Ability to receive and respond positively to feedback • Ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment • Excellent customer service skills • Ability to work at assigned OAG location and perform all tasks in designated workspace • Ability to provide personal transportation for business-related travel • Ability to work more than 40 hours and lift up to 30 lbs. as needed • Ability to travel up to 25%, including overnight travel • Typing speed of 35 words per minute
Preferred Qualifications: • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university • Knowledge of investigative practices and techniques • Proficiency in Spanish
