Chemical Patent Attorney The candidate will be prosecuting US patent applications at all stages, from filing to issuance, primarily in chemical technologies; advocating persuasively for clients’ interests before Patent Examiners and Administrative Patent Judges; counseling clients on a wide range of issues including prosecution strategy, freedom-to-operate issues, cost optimization, and recent developments in US patent practice; working the hours necessary to satisfy the responsibilities of the position; taking initiative in other tasks, which may involve contributing to firm visibility in the legal community, interfacing with visiting clients from overseas, supporting the firm’s business development efforts, and collaborating on special IP projects. Should have 5-10 years of chemical patent prosecution experience, preferably in a law firm. Must have registration number for practicing patent prosecution with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Should have license as a member in good standing with any US state bar (if an attorney). PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely-related field required. Must have English-language fluency. Should have proficiency with Microsoft Office. Fluency in French, German, and/or Japanese languages preferred. Chemical industry experience desired. Should preferably have teaching experience at Graduate chemistry level. Should preferably have degrees from highly-ranked universities and/or at least one university in Europe or Asia.
