CIVIL LITIGATION/EDUCATION ATTORNEY AT LAW FIRM:
A reputable law firm, Murphy, Lamere & Murphy, P.C., is seeking an experienced attorney with a minimum of 5 years of civil litigation experience to join our education and student services team. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as opportunities for growth within the firm. We are looking for a highly skilled individual with excellent writing and oral advocacy abilities to provide legal counsel and representation to our clients in the field of education.

Position Description:
As a civil litigator, the successful applicant will be responsible for representing our school district and municipality clients in a variety of legal matters, with a focus on education. This will include tasks such as conducting legal research, drafting documents, representing witnesses, and providing trainings to school administrators and teachers. The position also requires in-person work at our offices in Braintree, MA, as well as travel to schools and courts throughout the state as needed. The annual billable hour requirement is 1800 hours, with the possibility of early morning or evening work depending on client needs.

Required Skills:
We are seeking an attorney with strong courtroom experience and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. The ability to draft legal documents and provide clear and concise legal advice is essential. Knowledge of civil and appellate procedure, as well as the ability to understand complex information, is also required. The ideal candidate will be organized, able to work independently, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be a member in good standing of the Massachusetts bar, with additional Federal bar admission preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil litigation, particularly in the areas of education, municipal, and/or labor/employment law, is required.

Compensation and Benefits:
• Competitive starting salary range of $105,000 to $125,000, based on qualifications
• Performance-based bonuses

Position Responsibilities:

• Represent school clients in student disciplinary hearings, IEP team meetings, and appeals to state and federal administrative agencies and courts
• Prepare and represent witnesses
• Conduct and advise clients on internal investigations, including Title IX
• Draft and amend school policies and student handbooks
• Conduct legal research and provide advice to clients
• Provide trainings to elected officials, school administrators, and teachers
• Perform similar or related work as required

Position Requirements:

• Member of the Massachusetts bar in good standing, preferably with additional Federal bar admission
• At least five (5) years of experience in civil litigation, preferably in the fields of education, municipal, and/or labor/employment law
• Strong advocacy and courtroom experience
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to draft and file legal documents, including discovery requests and responses, pleadings, memoranda, orders, findings of fact and rulings of law, trial documents, witness preparation questions, and mediation memoranda
• Knowledge of the rules of evidence, civil procedure, and appellate procedure
• Ability to understand complex information and provide legal advice in a clear and concise manner
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently
• Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and exciting work environment
• Ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex, and confidential issues
