With a team of over 90 employees, CCLS strives to provide high quality civil legal services at no cost to those in need. Job Description:
The Directing Attorney will hold a supervisory position within the Housing Law Team, reporting to the Chief Program Officer. They will provide leadership and guidance on housing issues, including representation in unlawful detainer actions, housing conditions, and landlord/tenant problems. Additionally, the Directing Attorney will play a crucial role in determining policy and systems-change solutions for the organization. They will need to strategize and decide on the most effective tools to use in each case, whether it be litigation, advocacy, or community legal education.
Duties:
- Supervising a team of Housing Law professionals and overseeing the delivery of legal and advocacy services - Ensuring high quality services and efficient use of resources by team members - Participating in legal services and community education events - Providing mentorship and training to improve litigation and advocacy skills - Evaluating team members' work and conducting case reviews - Assisting in grant writing and compliance tracking - Coordinating impact litigation and collaborating with other CCLS legal teams - Working with the Pro Bono Department to engage private law firms and attorneys in supporting CCLS' work - Conducting outreach to the client community and community-based organizations - Performing additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California - Minimum of five years of legal experience - Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and management skills - Litigation experience in trial courts, administrative hearings, and appeals - Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills - Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners - Dedication to training, mentoring, and motivating others - Commitment to co-counseling with pro bono partners and volunteers - Ability to manage a diverse portfolio and meet critical deadlines - Strong commitment to CCLS' mission and core values - Dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion - Bilingual abilities preferred - Ability to travel as needed and proof of liability and property insurance for personal vehicle

Salary Information:
The salary for this position ranges from $90,492 to $107,913 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition, CCLS offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, and a 403(b) retirement plan.
