Job Title: Attorney - Health and Public Benefits Practice Group Experience: Membership in the Ohio Bar or ability to be admitted by motion or temporary certification; legal experience in government benefits and healthcare or poverty law preferred Salary: Starting range of $68,000-$79,300 with expected updates by Fall 2024 Organization: Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) Department: Health and Public Benefits Practice Group
ABLE, a non-profit regional law firm, is seeking a culturally competent and hardworking attorney to join their Health and Public Benefits Practice Group. Based in either the Toledo or Dayton office, the Attorney will work to secure benefits and healthcare for low-income individuals and families, as well as advocate for policy changes and access to the legal system. About ABLE: - Established over 50 years ago to ensure access to justice for vulnerable populations - Partnered with Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO) to provide comprehensive legal representation in non-criminal matters - Serves more than 425,000 people living in poverty in Northwest and West Central Ohio - Advocates for policy changes to address the structural causes of poverty and protect the rights of low-income individuals and communities
Responsibilities: - Represent clients to secure access to healthcare and government benefits - Advocate for policy changes to improve economic independence for clients - Ensure meaningful access to the administrative and court system for low-income individuals and families
Requirements: - Membership in the Ohio Bar or ability to be admitted by motion or temporary certification - Excellent legal and communication skills, computer competency, and understanding of community lawyering preferred - Ability to relate well with and commitment to legal services for people with low incomes - Legal experience in government benefits and healthcare, or poverty law in general, is helpful - Fluent in Spanish is a plus - Commitment to ABLE's mission and clients
Compensation and Benefits: - Starting salary range of $68,000-$79,300 with expected updates by Fall 2024 - Comprehensive fringe benefits, including health insurance and student loan repayment assistance up to $6,000 per year through the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation - Some travel between ABLE's office locations required
