The position is full-time and can be remote, with a salary ranging from $58,500 to $72,080 depending on experience. Responsibilities: - Provide legal representation to clients in health-related matters such as Medicaid and Medicare services, health insurance denials, and nursing home residents' rights. - Conduct legal education and training on health-related issues for advocates throughout New York State. - Identify systemic issues and advocate for improved access to health care. - Represent clients in post-enrollment health insurance issues and appeals. - Engage in legislative and administrative advocacy. - Collaborate with stakeholders and participate in coalitions to advocate for marginalized communities. - Keep advocates informed of changes in health insurance issues through the NYHealthAccess website. - Collect and report data required by grants and act as HIICAP Coordinator. - Keep accurate case and time records.
Qualifications: - Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school. - Minimum 3 years of experience in health law for Staff Attorney, 7 years for Senior Attorney. - Experience with legislative and administrative advocacy preferred. - Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills. - Admission to practice in New York or pending admission. - Commitment to working with diverse populations and improving the lives of marginalized individuals and families. - Strong decision-making skills and ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines. - Knowledge of Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance procedures and rules. - Experience in supervising legal staff preferred for Supervising Staff Attorney or Supervising Senior Attorney positions.
