Job Summary: As an Associate General Counsel for UnitedHealthcare's Employer & Individual segment, you will provide legal advice and services on issues concerning rights, obligations, risks, and privileges within the organization. This role will support the Specialty Benefits business, which includes dental and vision products, as well as financial protection products such as life, disability, and critical illness. You will work closely with senior business leaders and various departments to provide legal guidance on insurance law, commercial law, contracts law, benefits law, regulatory and compliance matters, and more. This position has a national impact and is responsible for protecting the organization's rights while supporting its growth goals.
Key Responsibilities: - Interpret legal/regulatory requirements at the federal and state level and potentially advocate for changes - Collaborate on new product and market entrances - Support sales/account management initiatives - Review RFPs for potential new/renewal customers - Draft and negotiate contracts - Handle regulatory matters and resolve customer issues - Assist with litigation management, including pre-litigation matters - Address antitrust issues
Required Qualifications: - Juris Doctorate degree - Current law license in at least one US jurisdiction - 5 years of legal experience - Experience with regulatory agencies and state insurance regulations - Knowledge of US and state contract, corporate health care, and regulatory law - Understanding of health care benefit coverage and medical policy development - Proven ability to collaborate in a matrixed business and legal environment - Demonstrated understanding of business problems related to legal projects - Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action - Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in the vision care industry - Understanding of health insurance and/or managed care industry - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually, based on full-time employment. Pay is determined by factors such as local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications. In addition to salary, UnitedHealth Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, stock purchase options, and 401k contribution (subject to eligibility requirements).
