Salary Information: $90,677-$159,936 per year, non-negotiable and determined by Chief of Staff, based on individual factors such as experience and skill set

Job Description:

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to fill the position of Assistant State's Attorney in the Child Protection Division. This individual will be responsible for managing a daily court call and handling all aspects of a caseload of child protection matters. The primary responsibilities of this position include reviewing documentation, interviewing witnesses, and preparing cases for trials and hearings. The Assistant State's Attorney will also regularly interact with various professionals and community members to ensure the best outcomes for children and families.

Responsibilities:

- Review DCFS and social service agency documentation, medical records, and other relevant information related to child abuse and neglect cases
- Interview and prepare witnesses for trials and hearings
- Regularly litigate in court, including motion practice, adjudication and termination of parental rights trials, and permanency hearings
- Interact with victims, DCFS investigators, social workers, judges, and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes for children and families
- Collaborate with Child Protection Supervisor, Division Chief, and other team members to ensure effective operations of the division
- Serve as an advocate and representative of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office and its mission, vision, and values

Qualifications:

- Prior litigation and/or child welfare social work experience
- Strong interest in child protection and family law
- Understanding and commitment to family reunification principles

Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior child protection trial experience

Working Environment:

The Assistant State's Attorney will be responsible for managing a daily court call and will regularly collaborate with various professionals and community members. This is a full-time bargaining unit exempt position.

Physical Requirements:

This job falls under the category of light work, which involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time and requires a good deal of walking, standing, and sitting. Candidates must be able to perform a wide range of activities to be considered capable of performing light work.
