H1: Assistant State’s Attorney - Homicide Unit Position Available H2: Join Our Team as a Homicide Assistant State’s Attorney
The organization is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant State’s Attorney to join the Homicide Unit. This is a lateral position that requires knowledge of the principles and practices of law, including court procedures and legal research methods and sources.
As an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Homicide Unit, you will handle a high volume court docket involving a variety of complex cases effectively. This includes interviewing victims and witnesses to gather information, researching relevant case law and codes, determining appropriate sentence recommendations and guidelines, and developing strategies and theories for effective case prosecution. You will also be responsible for drafting and preparing a variety of legal documents, such as briefs, motions, and legal memoranda.
In addition, you will coordinate with other City and State agencies that provide assistance, protection, and services to victims and witnesses. You will also participate in Community Engagement Initiatives to help build stronger relationships with the community. This position may require working during off hours, including the middle of the night and weekends, and is primarily performed in an office setting with minimal physical exertion.
To be considered for this position, you must have graduated from an accredited law school and be admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland with Felony Jury Trial experience. The applicant is also required to pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.
The salary for this position starts at $100,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to a competitive salary, the organization also offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications for Assistant State’s Attorney - Homicide Unit Position:
- Graduation from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland with Felony Jury Trial experience - Knowledge of the principles and practices of law, including court procedures and legal research methods and sources - Skill in using a personal computer and commonly utilized business and legal software in the performance of duties - Ability to handle a high volume court docket involving a variety of complex cases effectively - Ability to interview victims and witnesses to gather information, research relevant case law and codes for applicability to varying legal issues, determine appropriate sentence recommendations and guidelines, and to develop strategies and theories for effective case prosecution - Drafting and preparation of a variety of legal documents, including but not limited to briefs, motions and legal memoranda - Coordination with other City and State agencies that provide assistance, protection and services to victims and witnesses - Participation in Community Engagement Initiatives - Performance of related work as required
