Job Title: Assistant District Attorney Organization: District Attorney's Office Department: Legal Location: Chambersburg, PA Salary: $62,665.52 - $80,486.29 per year Employment Type: Full-time
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent the Commonwealth and the County in prosecuting cases of alleged violations of state laws within the County - Work closely with law enforcement agencies and individuals involved in cases - Conduct legal research, provide legal opinions, and advise on drafting of criminal complaints and search warrants - Evaluate evidence and prepare witnesses for court appearances - Litigate cases effectively and prepare necessary briefs and arguments - Represent the Commonwealth in various court proceedings, including preliminary hearings, trials, and appeals - Attend continuing education courses and training sessions as required - Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards - Work beyond normal work hours or on-call as needed - Attend meetings and seminars related to law enforcement and related issues
Qualifications:
- Juris doctor degree and admission to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania - Continuing legal education required - Some training in computers helpful - Ability to speak and understand the English language and follow oral and written instructions - Effective communication and interpersonal skills - Strong initiative and problem-solving skills - Ability to work independently and with others - Thorough knowledge of state law and rules of evidence - Ability to analyze, organize and present facts and evidence in legal proceedings - Ability to make independent decisions when necessary
Working Conditions:
- Works indoors in a crowded work space with fluctuations in temperature - Above average exposure to noise, stress, and disruptions - Exposure to dust and dirt - May work beyond normal work hours or on-call as needed - May work with volatile and potentially hostile individuals involved in cases
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be able to record, convey, and present information effectively - Ability to sit for long periods and perform occasional lifting and carrying of objects up to 10 pounds - Emotional stability and ability to cope with the stress of the position - Attention to detail and ability to concentrate on work
