JOB OVERVIEW
The Office of Research Laboratory Animal Medical Services department (LAMS) is seeking an Assistant Director of Veterinary Services. Working with the Director, this role supervises the veterinarian staff and manages the activities required for the care and humane use of laboratory animals to further scientific discovery.

As a member of our team you will be on the cutting-edge of scientific advancement participating in unique and critical research that helps discover and develop new technologies and solve difficult problems.

LAMS is responsible for husbandry and veterinary care of all vertebrate animals on **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (UC) campus. LAMS is committed to providing high-quality services to meet the needs of the researchers. In addition, they are responsible for assisting researchers in model development, animal usage, humane animal treatment, and compliance with University policies and procedures and governmental regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Manage veterinary activities required for the care and use of laboratory animals. Oversee rodent import/export, quarantine, and health surveillance programs. *Create and provide project status reports; set and clarify goals for veterinary technical staff, prioritize and coordinate work schedules. Provide investigator support during model development and IACUC protocol review processes. *Assist with review of SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards. Assist with personnel training and with coordination of meetings and continuing education opportunities for staff. *Assist with budgetary and program oversight. Assist with regulatory and accreditation oversight. Assist with formulation and implementation of process improvement strategies. Assist with Post Approval Monitoring. *Report animal, facility and personnel issues and concerns to the appropriate level. Develop and maintain effective teamwork with staff, management, investigators and other departmental units.  *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).  *Perform related duties based on departmental need. REQUIRED EDUCATION
Doctoral Degree

REQUIRED TRAININGS/CERTIFICATIONS
*Eligible for full veterinary licensure in Ohio within six (6) months of employment. *Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM), ACLAM board eligibility or Diplomate of an applicable specialty board.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
*Three (3) to six (6) months working with livestock in a surgical setting. *Three (3) years supervision.
