Introduction:
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (OLPR) in Saint Paul, MN is seeking an experienced attorney to join their team as an Assistant Director. The OLPR is responsible for handling ethics complaints against licensed attorneys and ensuring the integrity of the legal profession. This position offers an opportunity to work on a variety of legal matters and make a meaningful impact in maintaining ethical standards within the legal community.
Job Description:
The Assistant Director will support the OLPR in investigating and prosecuting ethical misconduct of lawyers. This includes legal research, writing, investigative work, as well as trial and appellate practice. The role also involves educating the bar on professional responsibility matters and mentoring volunteer investigators. The ideal candidate will have a fair-minded approach and the ability to work effectively with challenging respondents and complainants.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate complaints of attorney violations of the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct - Make recommendations for disposition and prepare dispositional memorandums - Prosecute private discipline cases before Board panels and occasionally public discipline cases before Supreme Court referees and the Supreme Court - Educate the bar on professional responsibility matters through speaking engagements at seminars - Mentor volunteer investigators at district ethics committees - Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Possession of a law degree from an accredited college or university - 3-5 years of experience as an attorney in private or public practice - Possession of a current Certificate of Admission to the Bar of the State of Minnesota
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in investigation - 5 years of experience, including civil litigation or prosecution/defense experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills - Superior writing and presentation abilities - Knowledge of relevant laws and rules related to discipline - Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment - Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with judges, court staff, and the public
Salary and Benefits:
The expected starting salary for this position is $89,492 - $114,047 annually, with a full salary range of $89,492 - $138,601. The salary is dependent on qualifications and the position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The role also offers eligibility for state of MN employee benefits.

Position Logistics:
The Assistant Director will work mostly normal business hours, Monday-Friday, with a hybrid schedule of both remote and in-office days. Court proceedings, including panel, referee, and Supreme Court oral arguments, are conducted in person and remotely at the Minnesota Judicial Center.
