Job Title: Assistant Attorney General – General Litigation Division Organization: Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter Department: General Litigation Division Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
Overview: - The Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter represents State officials, employees, agencies, and departments in all legal matters related to their public duties. - The General Litigation Division (GLD) specializes in defending the State against complex constitutional challenges and provides legal advice to various State entities. - GLD is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Attorney General (AAG) with experience in complex civil litigation, preferably in constitutional, election, and education law.
Responsibilities: - Develop case strategy with client agency - Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff - Obtain, provide, and evaluate discovery - Consult with expert witnesses - Pursue motion practice - Negotiate settlements or try cases - Protect State's interests on appeal
Qualifications: - Four or more years of complex civil litigation experience preferred - Demonstrated excellence in legal research and writing - Strong analytical, negotiating, and oral advocacy skills - Electronic discovery experience preferred
