Job Description
The Child Support Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Assistant Attorney General for its Springfield office. This position offers a unique opportunity to handle child support enforcement cases and other litigation in several counties in west central Illinois. As an Assistant Attorney General, you will be representing the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services in various legal matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in trial work and possess excellent litigation and negotiation skills. In addition, superior interpersonal skills are essential as you will be interacting with court officials, agency staff, and families in need of child support enforcement services. This position requires extensive travel, including travel in excess of 100 miles each way to various counties in west central Illinois.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, starting salary is $81,000
Experience: Candidates must be licensed in Illinois at the time of application.

Responsibilities:
• Represent the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services in child support enforcement cases and other litigation matters. • Handle personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, administrative review actions, limited federal court actions, and miscellaneous matters. • Appear in court several times a week and manage a high volume of cases during each call. • Conduct formal evidentiary hearings when an agreement is not reached. • Prepare pleadings and responses to motions. • Research legal issues. • Maintain good working relationships with court officials and agency staff. • Interact with families needing child support enforcement services. • Extensive travel required.
Qualifications:
• Licensed attorney in Illinois. • Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for trial work. • Experience handling a high volume of cases. • Excellent litigation and negotiation skills. • Superior interpersonal skills. • Ability to manage a heavy workload and meet tight deadlines. • Willingness to travel extensively.
