Job Description:
- Provide general counsel services to state government, primarily related to insurance and risk management issues - Conduct legal research and produce written legal advice on complex issues - Work with agencies across state government on strategic legal advice and transactional matters involving risk management and insurance - Assist other Assistant Attorney Generals with legal questions related to insurance and risk management - Draft and review provisions of transactional documents related to insurance and risk management - Occasionally provide general counsel support for litigation attorneys - Develop a deep understanding of Oregon’s self-insurance functions and commercial insurance needs - Collaborate with colleagues and clients to ensure coordinated legal services - Other legal duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- Law degree from an accredited law school and active membership with the Oregon State Bar - At least 3 years of legal experience or a combination of career and legal experience relevant to the position duties - Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging - Openness to receiving constructive feedback - Exceptional legal research, analysis, and writing skills - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients - Accountability for work product and time management skills - Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships - A commitment to public service and providing timely and effective legal support to state agencies - Knowledge of the Oregon Tort Claims Act and experience working with governmental entities preferred - Familiarity with insurance coverage, defense, and commercial insurance law preferred
