Job Description
The Child Support Enforcement Division of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office is currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Attorney General for its Marion office. This position offers the opportunity to handle a diverse caseload, including child support enforcement cases and other legal matters, in several counties in southern Illinois. The ideal candidate will have a passion for trial work and experience managing a high volume of cases.
As an Assistant Attorney General, you will represent the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Department of Human Services in court. In addition to child support enforcement, you will also handle personal injury lien recoveries, estate liens and claims, excess assistance recoveries, administrative review actions, bankruptcy cases, and other miscellaneous matters. This role requires strong litigation and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to conduct formal evidentiary hearings when an agreement cannot be reached. You will also be responsible for drafting legal pleadings and conducting legal research.
In addition to legal skills, this position also requires superior interpersonal abilities. As an Assistant Attorney General, you will need to maintain positive relationships with court officials, agency staff, and the families you serve. You will also have the opportunity to travel extensively throughout southern Illinois to represent your clients in various counties.
The starting salary for this position is $81,000, with opportunities for growth based on years of experience.
