Summary: The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Child Support Division (CSD). AAGs represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings to establish paternity, obtain court orders for financial support and health care coverage for children, and enforce and modify child support orders. CSD staff also work to promote responsible parenting and collaborate with other state agencies and community organizations to support Texas families. AAGs have a robust legal practice that includes gaining trial court experience, negotiating court orders, and becoming experts in family law. Responsibilities: - Represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings to establish paternity, obtain court orders for financial support and health care coverage for children, and enforce and modify child support orders - Collaborate with other state agencies and community organizations to support Texas families - Promote responsible parenting and the involvement of both parents in their children’s lives - Develop and deliver training to colleagues and community partners - Maintain knowledge of family law and the Texas Family Code - Attend work regularly and ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information - Comply with agency policies and procedures, including ethics and integrity standards
Qualifications: - Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree - Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas - Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code - Experience in legal writing, mediation, and negotiation - Ability to serve as a trial lawyer, prepare sound opinions, conduct investigations, and perform legal research - Proficiency with using a personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval - Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines - Strong oral and written communication skills - Sound judgment and effective decision-making abilities - Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback - Excellent customer service skills - Ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional office environment - Ability to work in person at the assigned OAG work location and travel as needed
