Description: The Office of the Attorney General's (OAG) Child Support Division (CSD) is seeking dedicated and mission-driven Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) to join our team in promoting responsible parenting and ensuring that children in Texas receive the support they need and deserve. As an AAG, you will represent the State of Texas in judicial and administrative family law proceedings, gaining significant trial court experience and developing skills in negotiating court orders. You will also have the opportunity to become a subject-matter expert in various areas of family law and work with other state agencies and community organizations to support Texas families.
Function Description: - Represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings to establish, enforce, modify, or terminate court orders for child support and medical support - Represent the State of Texas in administrative hearings - Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program - Develop and deliver training - Perform related work as assigned - Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
Qualifications: - Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school - License: Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas by start date - Knowledge of Family Law and the Texas Family Code - Experience: Varies based on AAG level (I-IV) - Skill in legal writing, mediation, and negotiation - Skill in using a personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval - Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines - Effective oral and written communication skills - Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions - Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback - Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment - Ability to provide excellent customer service - Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs. and travel up to 25% of the time
Preferred Qualifications: - Two years' experience in handling Family Law cases - Jury Trial Experience - Experience in handling a high-volume legal practice - Fluency in Spanish
