Assistant Attorney General I-IV - Child Support Division
Key Responsibilities:
• Represent the State of Texas in legal proceedings to establish, modify, or terminate court orders for child support and medical support. • Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program. • Develop and deliver training on family law and the Texas Family Code. • Perform legal research and draft legal documents. • Attend work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. • Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive information. • Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity. • Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
Qualifications:
• Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. • Licensure: Must be licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. • Experience: One year of full-time legal experience as a licensed attorney for AAG II, two years for AAG III, and three years for AAG IV. • Knowledge: Familiarity with Family Law and the Texas Family Code. • Skills: Legal writing, mediation, negotiation, trial advocacy, legal research, and use of a personal computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval. • Abilities: Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, meet deadlines, communicate effectively, exercise sound judgment, work cooperatively with others, provide excellent customer service, travel up to 25%, lift and relocate 30 lbs., and work more than 40 hours as needed. • Preferred Qualifications: Two years’ experience in handling Family Law cases, jury trial experience, and proficiency in Spanish.
