Overview:
The Attorney General & Department of Law is seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney to fill the role of Assistant Attorney General, Major Crimes and Emerging Threats. This position offers a unique and challenging experience for an individual with extensive knowledge of the state and federal criminal justice systems and state government. The incumbent will have the opportunity to handle their own caseload and work in collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in the investigation and prosecution of state and federal offenses, with a focus on violent crime and firearm offenses.
Job Duties:
- Handle own caseload and work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute state and federal offenses. - Focus on violent crime and firearm offenses, as well as drug trafficking, sex-trafficking, and money-laundering. - Provide legal advice to key Virginia agencies. - Assist in review and drafting of official advisory opinions of the Attorney General. - Review legislation during sessions of the Virginia General Assembly. - Analyze and provide concise, appropriate, practical, and accurate legal advice. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Manage complex cases.
Minimum Qualifications:
- United States citizenship. - Graduation from an accredited law school. - Admitted to the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission. - Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. - Good judgment. - Excellent legal research and writing skills.
Additional Considerations:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. - Prosecutorial experience in Virginia and/or federal courts preferred. - Outstanding legal research and writing skills.
