Position: Administrative and Legal Assistant
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Salary: Starting at $43,754 based on relevant experience

Job Type: Full-time, in-office position. Remote work not available. Must reside in Michigan or Ohio by first date of employment.
Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent professional experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Prior legal experience not required.
Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and Spanish.
Organization Description: The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (MIRC) is a legal resource center for immigrant communities. As part of the Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services (MSAS), a non-profit law firm, MIRC provides free legal services to low income and senior persons through several statewide programs. MSAS is administered by the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP), which works to increase access to justice for those most affected by poverty, racism, and other oppressive systems.
Job Description: The Administrative and Legal Assistant will primarily support the unaccompanied immigrant children's team at the local office level and across the team, and occasionally work on cases for unaccompanied immigrant children. This role also involves assisting with administrative projects outside of the children's team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage office administrative needs for the unaccompanied immigrant children's team - Assist with administrative projects outside of the children's team - Handle mail scanning and processing for assigned office - Support case management needs of managing attorneys - Collaborate with team members on projects and tasks
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent professional experience required - Bachelor's degree preferred - Fluent in English and Spanish - Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills - Demonstrated commitment to protecting the rights of immigrants or other persons in poverty - Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills - Proficient in major software and web services, including Word, Excel, and G Suite - Access to reliable internet connection if intending to work remotely - Prior experience, especially related to immigration and poverty, is a plus
