GENERAL SUMMARY: The Merchandise Accountant has responsibilities over merchandise related activities as well as period end close tasks and other ad-hoc reporting requests. Additional duties include being one of the inventory control contacts for 500 DSW store locations, ensuring that each store's inventory is stated correctly. This includes working cross functionally with DC, Transportation and Logistics, and finance partners on all things merchandise related.
REPORTS TO Manager, Vendor Finance
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Maintain Balance Sheet reconciliations and perform monthly reconciliation procedures around various complex accounts including inventory add on costs, unmatched merchandise receipts, and foreign trade zone accruals *Key resource for dealing with merchandise related Auditor requests *Collaborate cross functionally with the DC team to troubleshoot and resolve any unique variances on the unmatched report *Collaborate with Camuto Group to ensure the intercompany detail balances and merchandise chargebacks are appropriately booked by both companies *Work with the Import and Transportation teams to ensure both foreign and domestic in-transit accounts are appropriate at period end *Perform weekly analysis of cash projections and open payables reporting, including review of credit limits, to assist Treasury in their weekly reporting *Perform weekly vendor maintenance audits to validate appropriate support was acquired and update was made accurately prior to payment *Facilitate updates to vendor terms by working with Purchase Order Management team to ensure system and purchase orders accurately reflects agreed upon terms *Partner with Inventory Control Analyst to respond to store emails and support stores with inventory accuracy issues.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
*High degree of Accounting and Financial Analysis skills *Must be highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, & Access *Excellent verbal and written communication skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE:
*4 years of experience in accounts payable, inventory control, accounting, or financial planning & analysis preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*Knowledge of Business Objects/MicroStrategy, Lawson, Oracle, Jesta, SQL Developer & Hyperion is a plus *Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance; MBA and/or CPA or background in public accounting is plus
