Job Description
Law Firm Looking to Hire Highly Qualified Law Students for Summer Program

Morris Nichols is seeking highly qualified first- and second-year law students from top-tier law schools throughout the United States for its summer class. We are looking for candidates who are dedicated, hardworking, and have a strong interest in building their legal careers at our firm. If you are a law student looking for a challenging and rewarding summer experience, we encourage you to apply to Morris Nichols.

Our Recruiting Process

We encourage law students to apply to Morris Nichols through our direct application process in the early spring. We also conduct on-campus interviews and participate in a number of job fairs throughout the summer. Selected candidates will be invited to visit our office in Wilmington, Delaware, where they will have the opportunity to meet with partners, special counsel, and associates. Our goal is to not only identify top talent, but also for applicants to gain a deeper understanding of our firm, areas of specialization, and culture to determine if Morris Nichols is the right fit for them.

Law Students in the 2025 Program

Our direct application for first-year law students interested in our 2025 Summer Associate program opens on January 6, 2025. Candidates will be required to submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, undergraduate transcript, and writing samples. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.

Law Students in the 2026 Program

Our attorneys and recruiting team will be visiting various law schools and attending events in fall 2024 and spring 2025 to answer any questions about working in Delaware and starting a career at Morris Nichols. We encourage interested candidates to follow us on LinkedIn for more information. If you are unable to participate in our on-campus and virtual interview programs and job fairs, we strongly encourage you to apply directly by submitting a cover letter, resume, transcript, and writing sample.

Our Summer Associate Program

The Morris Nichols summer associate program is an important part of our recruiting process and is designed to provide participants with meaningful exposure to the firm, its lawyers and professional staff, and its clients. The program is 10 weeks long and typically begins in late May. We also assist with housing for those coming from out of town. Each summer associate is assigned an associate and partner mentor to provide guidance on the firm and its practices.

Flexibility and Substantive Work Experience

Our program allows summer associates to interact with many lawyers and work on assignments from all of the firm’s practice groups. We encourage participants to experience a variety of legal work, but also accommodate specific practice interests if expressed. Summer associates work on the same sophisticated matters assigned to our junior associates and are often involved in client meetings, drafting sessions, closings, negotiations, depositions, hearings, oral arguments, and trials. They also have the opportunity to participate in long-term assignments in areas of their preference.

Training and Feedback

Training at Morris Nichols is conducted both formally and informally, and includes seminars and workshops on various legal topics. Summer associates also receive meaningful and timely feedback to aid in their professional development. Members of the firm’s Recruiting Committee meet with each summer associate formally at least twice during the program to discuss their work and provide a final review.

Social Events

Our summer social events provide opportunities for summer associates and their families to get to know Morris Nichols lawyers and each other, as well as explore Wilmington and the surrounding areas. These events include professional sports games, outdoor activities, concerts, and dinner parties at the homes of our partners. There are also many informal social opportunities, such as lunches, dinners, and outings to local events.

Pro Bono and Community Service

Summer associates have the opportunity to work on pro bono assignments and participate in local service projects, including preparing meals at the Ronald McDonald House and assembling care packages for deployed military. We believe in giving back to the community and encourage our summer associates to do the same.

Diversity and Inclusion at Morris Nichols

We are committed to diversity and inclusion at Morris Nichols and actively seek out talented diverse candidates. We participate in the Delaware Diversity Job Fair, have created a 1L Diversity Fellowship Program, and have also attended the Lavender Law Career Fair. We believe in creating a sense of community and inclusion for all of our employees.

Join Our Team at Morris Nichols
