Job Description:
As a Pro Bono Law Clerk at Stinson, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of pro bono matters, including family law, housing issues, immigration, and criminal expungements. You will be based at our Deinard Legal Clinic, located at the Community-University Health Care Center in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis. This position is part-time (up to 29 hours a week) and runs from May to August 2025.
Salary and Benefits:
This position pays $22.00 an hour and offers valuable hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. Although no benefits are provided, this is a great opportunity for law students to gain practical experience and make a difference in the community.
Required Education and Experience:
To be considered for this position, you should have just completed your first or second year of law school. We are looking for candidates with a strong commitment to working with low-income individuals and a passion for medical-legal partnerships. Fluency in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong is helpful, as is prior experience working with underserved communities and in areas such as family law, immigration, or housing law. Completion or enrollment in a professional responsibility course is also preferred.
Essential Functions:
As a Pro Bono Law Clerk, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Work under the supervision of Stinson's Pro Bono Attorney on initial client intake and screenings. - Meet with clients/patients referred to the Deinard Legal Clinic on a weekly basis. - Draft intake/screening memos and present them to Stinson's Deinard Legal Clinic Screening Committee every two weeks. - Provide brief service and advice on matters and assist with referrals to other legal agencies under the Pro Bono Attorney's supervision. - Work with a variety of Stinson attorneys in the Minneapolis office in support of their pro bono matters.
In addition, you will be expected to perform general administrative duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:
This position requires travel to and from CUHCC (2001 Bloomington Avenue South, MPLS) and Stinson's MPL office (50 South 6th Street, MPLS) multiple times per week. Parking at CUHCC is open to the public, and parking at Stinson's MPL office will be included.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job operates in a professional office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The work environment is fast-paced and may require additional hours to complete work. The physical demands of this position include talking and hearing, sitting for long periods of time, using hands and fingers, and occasionally standing, walking, and reaching. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
