Organization: - Non-profit law firm serving northwest and west central Ohio - Offers high-quality legal services in civil matters to individuals and households living in poverty - Addresses root causes of poverty and represents survivors of domestic violence, tenants and homeowners, those seeking public benefits and healthcare, older adults, and agricultural workers, among others
Job Title: - Summer Associate
Experience: - Provides valuable practical experience in a fast-paced, hybrid environment - Work with experienced, passionate people known for excellent and compassionate advocacy - Opportunity to work closely with advocates in practice group, receive training on basics of poverty law, and gain additional knowledge through court observation and meetings with local attorneys and judges - Mentored by experienced attorneys on how to excel in a public interest law career - Direct experience engaging with clients in the communities served
Salary Information: - Paid salary for full-time work (35 hours per week) for a minimum of 10 weeks from May 19, 2025 to July 25, 2025 - Additional information provided at interview stage - Reimbursement for program-related travel available - LAWO will provide necessary documentation for applicants who secure additional funding or grants
Requirements: - Passion for public service and commitment to meeting all program requirements - Submission of cover letter, resume, and list of three professional references at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** - Optional submission of one writing sample - Cover letter should include preferred work arrangement (hybrid or in-person), preferred office location, and top 2 interests for practice areas and why - Description of any volunteer or public interest work completed, and/or interest in serving low-income and marginalized families and communities - Cover letter should be less than two pages and must include all requested information
Geographic Locations (choose 1): - Dayton - Defiance - Lima - Toledo - Findlay - Sandusky - Springfield
Practice Areas of Law (choose 2): - Pro bono services - Consumer protections and bankruptcy - Domestic violence survivors’ rights and family law - Eviction defense, foreclosures, and housing law - Seniors’ rights and estate planning
