Practices practical nursing within the parameters set forth in **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***'s Plans for the Provision of Patient Care and functions under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. Partners with the RN in collecting data, planning, implementing and evaluating patient/resident care. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients/residents served.
Participates in the nursing process to administer nursing care under the direction of the RN. May assign appropriate tasks to LPNs and unlicensed personnel. Communicates frequently with team members, ancillary departments and physicians. Works closely with patients/residents and families. May be exposed to infectious diseases, bio-hazardous materials, including regulated medical wastes and combative patients. Requires walking, pushing, pulling, standing, stooping, bending and lifting, in performance of duties. Must demonstrate proper body mechanics and be able to safely lift, push/move, support and transfer patients. Frequent use of mechanical devices. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, possesses the ability to collect data reflective of the patient's status, interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures. May be asked to provide care at other Carilion facilities to meet patient needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
EXPERIENCE: LPN Experience preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR REGISTRATION: Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia. Must obtain/maintain AHA BLS-HCP. In Psychiatry and Behavioral Health de-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward.
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Specific experience and certifications may be listed in service line specific addendums to this job description. Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements. Must be able to meet essential job functions.
