The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure Gonzalo Law, LLC has the proper operational controls, human resource management, benefits administration, review and track financial controls, administration and reporting procedures. The COO is responsible for day-to-day operations of assigned operational areas. Ensures the appropriate staff are in place to effectively grow the organization and ensure safe operations, consistency and efficiency. The COO is responsible for related goal setting, planning, problem-solving, leading and fostering interdepartmental communication and collaboration. The COO works closely with the CEO to operationalize the overarching strategic vision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Coordinates the different departments – Law, HR, Finance, Marketing, and Administrative.
Sets strategy and oversees the firm’s back office operations to manage HR operations, benefit administration, and engage our team.
Has a strong command of Quickbooks Desktop and managing Financials.
Past experience working with a law firm.
In conjunction with the Managing Attorney, the COO: o Leads the development of the organization’s long-and short-term strategies.
Manages overall operations.
Manages the organization’s resources.
Negotiates or approves agreements and contracts for the organization. Implements the firm succession plan.
Does not interfere with legal work.
Implements the company vision and mission.
Evaluates the work of other executive leaders within the firm.
Maintains awareness of the competitive market landscape, expansion opportunities, industry developments, etc.
Ensures that the company maintains high social responsibility wherever it does business.
Assesses risks to the company and ensuring they are monitored and minimized.
Sets strategic goals and making sure they are measurable and describable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

4 Year Undergraduate Degree from an Accredited University in Business Management, Finance, HR, Operations, English, and related fields.
MBA in HR Management, Finance, Business Management, or related fields is strongly encouraged.
Preference given to a JD holder, yet not required.
An established leader with at least 5-10 years of strong operational experience in the business and or legal industry.
At least 5 years in a senior management position with supervisory experience.
Extremely strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of employees
Communicates proactively and collaborates effectively with others to achieve objectives and meet deadlines

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTION:

Computer Programs: Proficiency sought in the following: o Quickbooks Desktop
Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Monday.com
Strong writing skills and ability to write to a variety of audiences
Able to conduct research, proofread documents, conduct meeting follow ups, and CRM maintenance
Tech savvy and willing to utilize and learn all the tools offered
Highly organized and efficient; able to prioritize work based on minimal direction and multiple competing priorities
Confident, self-starter/proactive, independent, detailed oriented, and flexible
Not easily stressed in fast-moving environments with competing priorities
Utilize problem-solving capabilities and critical thinking to help address challenges
Entrepreneurial mindset, self-motivated, and ability to propose new workflows
Ability to work across multiple time zones given the nature of the work and travel schedule of the CEO.
‘Can-do’ attitude and active willingness to contribute achievement of organizational goals.
A high degree of professionalism, integrity and discretion.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Location: This position is available as a remote position for applicants based in Miami, Cleveland, Columbus, New York, or Gainesville, Florida. If located elsewhere, this may be possible. Those based in Gainesville, Florida will be onsite to complete their work, not remote. As an onsite position, we are based in Gainesville, Florida office at UF Innovate. Remote applicants, based outside of Gainesville, will check in weekly via zoom, meet with the managing attorney at a designated time in person, and have regular phone calls for our Miami and Cleveland offices. Must be able to meet in person at least 2-4 times per year with the Managing Attorney.
