Salary Information:
Salary for this position will depend on experience and qualifications. The salary range for an Associate Claims Examiner is typically $50,000 to $70,000, while a Claims Examiner can expect a salary range of $70,000 to $100,000. Overview:
USLI, a leading insurance company based in Oak Brook, IL, is seeking a Claims Examiner or Associate Claims Examiner for their Employment Practices team. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as opportunities for professional and personal development.
Essential Functions:
- Review first notice of loss and policy information to confirm coverage - Prepare coverage position letters - Conduct thorough investigations to assess liability and damages - Understand and apply statutory and case law - Identify joint tortfeasors and ensure fair payment from all parties - Maintain adequate reserves based on liability and damage evaluation - Proactively manage files and negotiate directly with claimants and attorneys - Oversee defense counsel and review/approve settlement agreements - Maintain detailed file notes - Prepare reports for underwriting and other departments
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service by responding promptly to phone and email inquiries - Complete special projects as needed - Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional development - Occasional travel may be required for mediations or court hearings
Specific Skills:
- Knowledge of legal concepts, litigation processes, and agency filings - Strong communication skills (oral and written) - Analytical and negotiation skills - Organizational and time management skills - Technical knowledge of insurance coverage, employment law, and claim evaluation
Minimum Job Requirements:
- 2 years of relevant experience for Associate Claim Examiner - 7 years of relevant experience for Claim Examiner - Experience handling liability matters - Previous experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, attorney, or other transferable role - Knowledge of employment practices, D&O, and/or E&O claims is a plus - Multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degrees, and/or JD are also beneficial
