Experienced Claims Examiner or Associate Claims Examiner needed for Employment Practices team in Charleston, SC. As a Claims Examiner or Associate Claims Examiner, you will be responsible for confirming coverage, conducting thorough investigations, assessing liability and damages, and maintaining adequate reserves. In addition, you will be expected to have a strong understanding of legal concepts, litigation processes, and agency filings, as well as possess excellent communication, analytical, negotiation, and time management skills.

Key Responsibilities:
- Confirm coverage by reviewing first notice of loss and policy information - Prepare coverage position letters, including disclaimers and reservation of rights - Conduct thorough investigations to assess liability and damages - Understand and apply statutory and case law to assess liability exposure - Identify joint tortfeasors and ensure all parties pay their fair share - Maintain adequate reserves based on liability and damage evaluation - Proactively manage files towards final disposition - Negotiate directly with claimants and their attorneys - Oversee defense counsel and ensure effective litigation management - Prepare reports and other documentation for underwriting and other departments - Maintain detailed file notes - Respond promptly to phone and email inquiries, both internally and externally - Adhere to established claim service promises - Enroll in continuing education to maintain state licenses and support professional development - Occasional travel may be required for mediations or court hearings
Requirements:
- 2 years of relevant experience for Associate Claims Examiner role - 7 years of relevant experience for Claims Examiner role - Experience in handling liability matters - Employment practices, D&O, or E&O claim experience preferred - Knowledge of multi-jurisdictional laws a plus - Advanced degrees or JD also a plus
