Overview: - LANWT is a non-profit public interest law firm providing free civil legal services to low-income persons in 114 counties in North and West Texas - Seeking a dynamic, self-starting individual with a demonstrated commitment to public interest law - Position is located in Weatherford, Texas and is a Hybrid Remote role
Position: - Staff Attorney for Home Preservation Project - Full time, regular position - Must be licensed to practice law in Texas
Responsibilities: - Gather evidence, advise clients, draft legal documents, and conduct civil lawsuits - Represent clients in court and before government agencies - Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community - Provide legal assistance in areas such as employment, housing, foreclosure prevention, consumer, probate, special education, and social security - Emphasis on eviction defense, landlord-tenant law, and housing related matters - Design and carry out outreach and community legal education programs - Supervise and coordinate activities of legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers
Qualifications: - Licensed to practice law in Texas - Prior experience in contested landlord-tenant, housing, and/or foreclosure prevention cases preferred - Strong understanding of Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written - Ability to think and plan strategically and develop projects - Fluent in Spanish preferred - Strong work ethic and sense of accountability - Ability to travel occasionally for work
Salary: - Current entry-level salary for new attorney is $66,500 per year - Salary for successful applicant may be higher based on experience
