This is a full-time, regular position that offers a hybrid remote work arrangement. Position: Staff Attorney – Home Preservation Project (HPP)
Location: Hybrid/Remote – Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Texas
Salary: Starting at $66,500 per year, with potential for higher salary based on experience

Experience: Prior experience in contested landlord-tenant, housing, or foreclosure prevention cases preferred; experience in litigation cases also preferred
Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in Texas - Strong understanding of Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence - Prior experience in legal services, public interest, or volunteer work serving low-income individuals preferred - Fluent in Spanish (verbal and written) preferred - Excellent verbal and written communication skills - Ability to think and plan strategically and implement projects - Strong work ethic and sense of accountability - Ability to travel for work on occasion
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality representation to clients in accordance with LANWT’s policies and procedures - Handle a caseload involving substantial litigation and other advocacy efforts - Attend evening legal clinics and participate in community legal education programs - Establish relationships with community organizations and conduct intake at shelters - Engage in outreach efforts offered by LANWT - Supervise and coordinate activities of legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers
The Staff Attorney for the Home Preservation Project will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in reducing poverty by providing equitable access to the civil justice system. They will handle a variety of civil legal matters, including housing, foreclosure prevention, landlord-tenant, consumer, probate, special education, public benefits, and bankruptcy cases. The successful candidate will also work closely with the community and low-income community groups to further LANWT’s mission.
The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in Texas and have prior experience in contested landlord-tenant, housing, or foreclosure prevention cases. They should also have a strong understanding of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to think and plan strategically and implement projects is also important, as well as a strong work ethic and sense of accountability.
LANWT offers a competitive salary starting at $66,500 per year, with the potential for a higher salary based on experience.
