Computer Software Engineers Enjoying Job Stability

A computer software engineer is able to mix design and mathematical skills to develop programs that make computers work. They are the creative mind behind computer programs. While some develop the underlying systems to run devices and others develop the applications to allow users to complete tasks on a device, they both make our society run.

So what exactly does a software developer do? They analyze the needs of users to then design, develop, and test software to meet those needs. They are able to recommend software upgrades for users based on existing programs and systems. The part that users are most concerned with is the developer’s role in ensuring the software continues to run correctly through regular maintenance and testing.

The average pay is $90,060 and the job is expected to keep growing. They can work for computer systems design and related services firms, software publishers, computer and electronic product manufacturing industries, insurance carriers, and corporate headquarters of companies. Software developers work long hours.

To become a software developer, a bachelor’s degree in computer science or another computer programming skill is very highly recommended, if not required by almost all companies. Skills related to the field in which the engineer is working are also recommended, so if they are a developer of banking software, an understanding of banking and financial methods is needed.

Some developers start out as computer programmers before advancing to a developer position. The next level in the field is to become an information technology project manager or computer and information systems manager. Photo: Wikipedia.org
