Top 12 Places to Teach English Abroad

Have you always dreamed of living abroad but were unsure how to make a living while doing so? Teaching English is an in-demand and comparatively easy job that can be done in just about every country. And just like other teaching jobs, you work Monday thru Friday during the day so you still have your weekends free to explore. We've compiled a list of the 12 best places to teach English abroad.

  1. Czech Republic - The perfect location with beautiful landscapes, a high demand for the job, and an easier process of entering the country.
  2. South Korea - Most jobs require a bachelor's degree and a one year commitment, but the low cost of living coupled with perks like insurance benefits, housing, airfare, and competitive salaries makes this destination worthwhile.
  3. China - This increasingly popular location will sometimes offer perks like a great salary, apartment, airfare, and visa sponsorship.
  4. Mexico - While it may not seem like the safest place right now, there are plenty of jobs to be found once you arrive. Most positions require a bachelor's degree and a TESOL certificate. There isn't anything much better than being able to get paid to have fun in the sun.
  5. Russia -Many English teachers are afraid of the old stereotypes of a lawless and vodka fueled system making the demand for teachers high but supply of teachers to fill the demand low. You can get visa support, airfare, and housing included with your position. The two main schools are English First and BKC International.
  6. Japan -The Asian nations constantly need English teachers so they will pay well and offer incentives. Most positions hire year round and include an apartment, partial insurance, and visa sponsorship. The main school in Japan is AEON.
  7. Thailand -The largest and one of the older schools for language, the American University Alumni Language Center or AUA is always looking for teachers. The Center is a nonprofit school with nearly 400,000 graduates. The cost of living is relatively low.
  8. Italy - Affordable gourmet food and cheap travel are just some of the perks to being in the country. One downside is the process to obtaining a visa. It is suggested that you get a TESOL online certificate from a school that guarantees job placement.
  9. Saudi Arabia - The Middle East offers some of the highest paid English teaching jobs. The culture and location is not perfect for everyone.
  10. Brazil - This country is trying to become a global contender, so they are motivated to learn English in traditional and business schools. However, obtaining a visa can take a while.
  11. Taiwan - Of all the Asian countries, Taiwan has one of the higher standards for living. You can expect a solid salary and great weather. Be wary of signing up to work at less than stellar schools and do a lot of research first.
  12. Vietnam - The cost of living is low and the country is continuing to open up to outsiders. Your best chance of finding a teaching job will be in the two largest cities, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.
