Five Things You Must Have in Every Job Posting

 Dated: 07-18-2012

Job boards are here to stay. Despite all the hype created by social media, job boards remain the most popular and sought after tool for hiring managers. Almost anyone in job search mode is most likely to use a job site first when looking for a job. However, that definitely does not mean that your jobs will always be noticed by everyone looking for jobs. You need to make an effort to ensure that your job postings are written in a manner that will ensure they stand out in a crowd. Here are five things you must have in every job posting if you want it to stand out to the right job seekers.

Five Things You Must Have in Every Job Posting

  1. Have specific job titles: If the job title is specific and clear, you will get more relevant resumes. Stick to job titles your company and your industry uses in job postings. Don't go for fancy titles such as "visionary", "great communicator" "artist", etc.

  2. List of necessary skills and qualifications: Jobseekers tend to flip through job listings. Make sure your job posting has a section where all the needed qualifications, experience and skills are clearly listed.

  3. Use keywords, graphics and bullets: A correct dose of keywords along with graphics will make your job listing stand out. The posting should carry your company logo, mission statement and media links you have. Your job description should have a sufficient number of keywords so that jobseekers' searches will find them easily. Highlight important parts of the listing with bullets, but don't put the entire listing in bullet points.

  4. Salary information: Give the salary information or the salary range – this will get you a good response. If you don't want to give the specific salary figure, just say you will pay by industry standards or pay will be commensurate with experience. If you offer bonuses or stock options mention them clearly.

  5. Company culture: Talk about what your company stands for and why it is a great place to work. Mention other benefits, including the non-financial ones your company gives its employees.
Before posting your job, get it proofread. Just as you want the jobseekers to have high standards, you should also have high standards in your job postings.
