Company History: The company we know today as Kraft Foods originated as the National Dairy Products Corporation which was founded by Thomas McInnerney in December, 1923. By 1930, the company was the largest dairy firm in the country as well as the world. James L. Kraft, a Canadian born of German descent, started a door-to-door wholesale business in 1903 in Chicago. The business expanded and the company J.L. Kraft and Bros was formed in 1909. The company was selling 31 cheese varieties by 1914 throughout the country due to the product development, marketing, expansion and the cheese factory that the company had in Illinois.

The name of the company was changed to Kraft Cheese Company in 1924. It was listed on Chicago Stock Exchange. The company was also listed on NYSE in 1926. In 1927, Kraft established its sales offices in London, UK and in Hamburg, Germany. In 1929, the company consolidated brands such as Maxwell House Coffee and many other well known brands under the name of General Foods Corporation. In 1988, Kraft became a part of the Philip Morris Company. This created the largest consumer product organization in the world.




In the year 1990, Kraft took over Jacobs Suchard which made it the leading brand in European ground and roast coffee market as well as a confectionary leader. On 2^nd February, 2010, Kraft Foods took over Cadbury.
