Pasadena, CA  — Help for 99ers appears to be uncertain as the Democrat-proposed S.3706 Tier V unemployment extension bill. The Senate is going to adjourn on October 1, a week earlier than originally planned. This means that the bill is going to be taken up only after Congress returns after elections in mid-November.

99ers are people who have been unemployed for over 99 week and have exhausted all their unemployment benefits. The Bureau of Labor Statistics refers to them as ''discouraged workers'' who have dropped out of the workforce. According to its own estimate, there are 2 million such Americans.

The bill is called S.3706: Americans Want to Work Act. It mainly focuses on giving an additional 20 weeks of unemployment assistance to people who have been jobless for more than 99 weeks. The bill also has various tax incentives to encourage Americans companies to hire more employees in the country and end subsidies and tax breaks for companies that move their jobs overseas.

CEO A. Harrison Barnes of Hound believes that these discouraged workers should keep applying for jobs. Barnes says ''The last few months were tough for the unemployed with few jobs being created. But the economy is officially out of the recession and employers are saying that they want to hire more people but can't find the right kind in enough numbers.'' Barnes is upbeat about the jobs scenario because his company has been able to find over 84,000 jobs in just a week. The jobs are across all the states and in virtually every industry.
