As a corporation it has become emblematic of globalization and the spread of American culture around the world. It is the only fast food chain to have its own theory of global conflict, ''the Golden Arches Theory of Conflict Prevention'', which erroneously claims that no two countries each containing a McDonald's has ever gone to war.
McDonald's traces its roots to a hamburger restaurant operated by two brothers named McDonald in San Bernadino, California. The brothers are often credited with creating the model for modern day fast food service. In 1955, 7 years after the first store opened, Ray Kroc opened a franchise in Illinois and soon thereafter bought out the brother's equity in the company. Kroc is credited with the rapid expansion of McDonald's and the creation of a household name around the world.
A company as large and emblematic as McDonald's can't escape controversy, and McDonald's has been the involved in several high profile lawsuits, as well as being the topic of movies, books, pamphlets and other forms of media. Most of these have been critical of McDonald's for things ranging from the quality of their food to the quality of jobs. The term ''McJob'' was added to the Merriam-Webster collegiate dictionary in 2003, defined as ''a low-paying job that requires little skill and provides little opportunity for advancement.'' The company has worked hard to combat this negative stereotype by promoting its benefits packages and career opportunities, but front line McDonald's employees still receive low or no benefits, depending on eligibility requirements.
However, negative stereotypes aside, McDonald's does have career paths ranging from store management up through corporate jobs, and these positions offer competitive salaries and benefits. More than 75% of store managers and 50% of franchise owners started off working behind the counter at a McDonald's. Currently on Hound, you can find 57 job listings for McDonald's , mostly for store management positions. Wherever you are on your career path, Hound has the job listings you're looking for.
