By   |  Dated: 09-06-2010

In 2002 Conoco Inc and Phillips Petroleum Company merged to form the 5th largest private sector energy corporation in the world. The post merger company, ConocoPhillips, is one of the six ''supermajor'' oil companies. The ''supermajors'' are the six largest privately owned oil companies in the world and together control approximately 6% of the world's oil reserves. 88% of the oil reserves are held by state owned oil companies, predominately in the Middle East.

ConocoPhillips is a vertically integrated oil company. In addition to owning drilling rights around the world, ConocoPhillips owns a fleet of oil tankers, 19 refineries, and distribution units under several names. Their most familiar name brand in America is Union 76, but the company also has filling stations under the name Phillips 66 and Conoco. In Europe, the company has a distribution unit for jet fuel in several countries.

The company has a spotty environmental record. ConocoPhillips is listed as the 13th worst producer of air pollution in the United States by the Political Economy Research Institute. However, in 2007 ConocoPhillips joined the US Climate Action Partnership, the first American oil company to do so. The organization recommended mandatory emissions caps to then President George W Bush. The same year, ConocoPhillips spent $150 Million on developing alternative sources of energy, but that's only a tiny fraction of the company's $246 Billion in revenues.

ConocoPhillips employs nearly 34,000 people worldwide. Currently on Hound, there are 53 listings for positions with ConocoPhillips, ranging from engineering to crewmen on oil tankers. By comparison, Monster.com has 11 listings for ConocoPhillips and yahoo! Jobs lists only 6 positions. Because Hound uses sophisticated software to cull jobs directly from employer websites and never charges companies to list open positions, you will always find jobs listed at Hound that are not available on any other job site.

ConocoPhillips employees enjoy a broad spectrum of benefits including health and dental plans for the employee and immediate family members, life insurance plans, and a retirement plan.
