Pasadena, CA  — The unemployment rate has gone down in 39 states and Washington DC in June according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Five states reported increases and another six reported that the situation remained the same.

But several analysts have pointed out that this figure does not mean the job situation is improving across the country. In June, only 21 states and Washington DC reported an increase in jobs. This means the unemployment rate has fallen because a lot of people have stopped looking for jobs. Only individuals who are actively looking for work in the last four weeks are counted as unemployed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Bureau estimates that around 650,000 people have stopped looking for work. Private businesses hired only 83,000 new employees in June.

Some economic experts say that private businesses are not hiring because of concerns about new government regulations and uncertainty about the economic viability of hiring in a recession. Regarding this, A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of Hound, says ''Its true that businesses hired only 83,000 people in June, but that doesn't they aren't looking to hire. We have been able to locate over 107,000 in the last seven days alone. Most of these are taken directly from the employer websites.'' Hound is a job search engine.

The major job openings throughout the country on the site were: customer service (24,520), information technology (64,495), engineering (56,886), sales (52,945), healthcare (142,466), and education (37,567).
