The sheer number of employment opportunities in Michigan and the state's natural beauty have always drawn new residents and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. As the state's motto says (translated from the Latin), "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you".

The state has historically been the epicenter of the American automotive industry, a title which it continues to hold to this day. While the US industry may have fallen on hard times as of late, this economic sector is still where a great many residents of the state make their living and there are Michigan employment opportunities in the auto industry itself as well as in many other industries which serve the needs of automotive manufacturers. These jobs in Michigan include everything from manufacturing parts for auto companies to marketing and advertising for these companies, their products and services. Detroit, the state's largest city is after all nicknamed "The Motor City" for good reason and General Motors, Chrysler and Ford Motors are all headquartered in or near the city and are major employers in Michigan, especially for residents of the greater Detroit metropolitan area.

Some of the major companies outside of the auto industry which call Michigan home include Whirlpool, located close to the Michigan-Indiana border in Benton Charter Township; Kellogg, in the southern Michigan city of Battle Creek; the furniture manufacturer Steelcase, located in Grand Rapids in the west-central portion of the state; Borders, headquartered in the college town of Ann Arbor, just a little west of Detroit and the construction and home improvement supply company Masco, just to name a few. The presence of so many large companies in the state means that there are many different types of Michigan jobs for long time residents and new arrivals alike to pursue. Regardless of your educational training and your professional experience to date, there are a great many different kinds of Michigan employment opportunities to look into.

Agriculture is also one of the state's largest industries; Michigan is known for its cherries, blueberries, apples and in the region, Michigan is also the largest source of Christmas trees. There are many ways to work in Michigan in the agricultural sector, from working in the fields and orchards spread throughout the state to administrative, managerial and marketing positions with the companies which package, distribute and market the many agricultural products produced in the state. If you're interested in agriculture or food in general, there are many employment opportunities in Michigan which may appeal to your interests.

Of course, Michigan is also the location of some nationally and internationally known universities, with many Michigan jobs in education being available. The state is home to the University of Michigan of course (a Big 10 school, for college football fans), Wayne State University in Detroit, the Kendall College of Art and Design, Rochester College, Western Michigan University, Michigan State University and many, many others. It is important to remember that professors are not the only people employed by universities and other institutions of higher learning; in fact, no matter what your work experience happens to be, there may well be a position for you with one of the many colleges in the state.

Michigan employment opportunities include everything from manufacturing to information technology, graphic design to agricultural work, banking, advertising and virtually anything and everything else you could possibly think of. Provided you don't mind the state's cold, snowy winters, it's consistently ranked as one of the best places in the country to live and with available jobs on the rise as the economy gets back on its feet, there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the economic outlook for this state, especially if you happen to be in search of jobs in Michigan. It's all about knowing where to look - but if you're persistent, you'll find the career you've always wanted in the Great Lakes State.
