Do Your Research
It's important that you know the tone of the dress code at the business you'll be interviewing with. If possible, ask someone who works there, or is familiar with the dress code. When in doubt, it's better to be overdressed rather than underdressed.
(If it's a formal interview, and you don't have a business suit, consider borrowing one from a friend or family member before making the investment.)
Keep it Simple!
Let your personality and experience be the things that stand out and make a lasting impression. Don't try to do it with a crazy outfit or wild hair. Even if this you feel that this expresses your personality, tone it down. If you're dressed like you're going to a party rather than an interview, it will leave a lasting impression, although most likely a negative one. Opt for professional, yet simple clothing and colors.
Polish your Look
To complete the overall look, pay attention to the smaller things. This shows that you make an effort to pay attention to details. Shoes need be polished, and clean. Your clothes should be free of wrinkles. Also, your hair should be out of your face (this goes for both women and men), and avoid wearing too much cologne or perfume. If you're wearing a belt, ensure that it matches or compliments your shoes. (Avoid wearing black shoes and a brown belt.)
Bring Your Confidence
Above all else, be sure to take your confidence and a smile with you to top off your appearance and make a great first impression!
