Georgia among the top job loss states, but Hound manages to find 12,000 jobs.  PDF Version
August 24, 2010 Pasadena, CA — Georgia had the second highest rate of job losses among the fifty states and Washington DC, during the past 12 months. The state lost a total of 39,100 nonfarm jobs. Georgia’s Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate was 9.9 percent in July. Although the unemployment rate fell slightly by 21,043 from June to July, it was because of unemployed workers dropping out of the workforce. 68,000 laid off workers filed initial unemployment claims. The number of employees statewide on the payroll in July was 3,805,600. The state’s Labor Department is trying to help the unemployed there by saying that people should not give up looking. There are signs that jobs are coming to Georgia. A New York based child products maker is set to expand its Macon plant and trailer maker Great Dane Trailers will be bringing 400 jobs to Statesboro. In spite of the grim news of the unemployment situation, A. Harrison Barnes strikes a note of optimism. Barnes runs the job search engine Hound. There are around 4,000 jobs in Atlanta alone.''
