Here are a few resume tips to help yours stand out:

Format and alignment: Before employers actually read your resume, they notice the formatting. You need to format your resume in such a way that the minute someone looks at it, they want to read it. A good format should include the following:

  1. A clear readable font, Times New Roman or Courier
  2. Enough spacing between lines
  3. Bolded titles
  4. Professional resume paper
Remember, your prospective employer doesn't have all day, so highlight what's important. This allows the employer to see clearly and quickly what you have to offer. Separate your resume in sections: Education, Experience, Goals and Contact Information. This makes it easy to read and looks professional.

Grammar: The last thing you want is to have a resume full of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes. Double check your resume and ask your friends to check it, too. And use spell check! The most important of all the resume tips is to have a resume free from any grammatical or spelling errors.

Most word processing software has excellent resume templates. Don't reinvent the wheel. Find one that best represents you and use it.

Interview Tips That Work

Job interviews are never easy; you need to sell yourself within a short span, which can be quite daunting. Here are a few interview tips to help you prove you're worth it.

Practice makes you perfect and your interviews are no exception. The more you practice, the better you get, so prepare yourself in the best possible manner to stay ready for an interview.

Keep a list handy - Write down important points you need to cover in your interview. List the number of questions you know the employer will ask you and prepare for it well. The best way to glean what might be discussed in your interview can be found with a little research. What did the ad you replied to say? Why did you think this job would work for you after reading the qualifications the ad posted?

Do your research - The best thing you can do is learn about the company that's going to interview you. Understand what they do and what they require from you. This proves how keen you are and will give you confidence as you speak with the interviewer.

Dress well - Wear clean, ironed clothes and ensure you've got clean shoes, too. Even if this is a job in a burger joint, dress professionally. Carry a file or briefcase with your documents placed neatly inside and always keep a notebook and pen handy.

Be on time - Never ever be late for an interview. This is the worst thing you could do. A late comer is never hired no matter how skilled he or she is. In fact, be 15 minutes early. Figure out your route, parking, and other factors that could make you late and be there early.

Stay focused - The most important of all the interview tips is to stay calm and focused. Greet your interviewer with a smile and a firm handshake before you begin your interview.
